As the backpacker.tv grows we can take a look back in 2008. We just launched in May and didn’t really know what to expect. However, since that time we have taken over 21,000 page views which brought 6,500 new visitors to our site in just a few short months. So, what were some of more popular stories, gear reviews, and videos of 2008? We have compiled a list. Not to informative, but it was fun doing it.

This video gets the first Backpacker.tv Choice Award for best all around Video. This YouTube video was made from the User “Oldmountainvideo“. We loved the all around flavor of this Vlog. Awesome display of trail, surroundings, Flawna, Flora, and Wildlife. This was featured as “Video of the Week” in August.

Also in the Video Category, most viewed video on thebackpacker.tv was the Havasu Flood Video. This by far was the most popular video watched on this site. It was also the “Most Read” article on thebackpacker.tv also.

On Saturday August 18th around 10 p.m. Tribal officials of the Havasu Tribe located in Supi, (in the Grand Canyon) are notified that water levels at Havasu Creek are rising…

One of the more interesting articles we wrote this year was about a simple sleeping bag that we could not find ANY info on. So, we bought it, and gear tested it. It became the most relevant keyword on Google that clicked to us. The top searched Keyword was “Aspen Ultralight Sleeping Bag”. In fact, we wrote a Gear Review on the “Aspen 40 Degree by Marmot“. Made by Marmot, but sold by Dicks Sporting Goods. This is bag was made specifically for Dicks and not sold by Marmot and sold for $99.00 bucks. You can imagine why people wanted to know more.

Most downloaded Photo on thebackpacker.tv was this. This picture was taken at sunrise (5:30AM) at 12,000 feet in the Rocky Mountain National Park. (Longs Peak)
