One of the lesser visited spots near the Valley is North Dome, a ~15 mile round trip from the valley (as I did) or a shorter hike from Tioga Road.

The trip from the valley starts at Mirror Lake and ascends a few thousand feet up Snow Creek Trail which includes nearly 100 switchbacks. The view from North Dome is incredible. You can see Tenaya Canyon to the northeast, the face of Half Dome to the east, Glacier Point to the south, El Capitan to the west, and the valley floor all around.
