Here is the normal recipe to get an idea of the ingredients for Shepards Pie.
Shepherds pie and Cottage pie are traditional methods for using leftover roasted meat with mashed potato as pie crust. The use of uncooked meat such as mince meat is a fairly recent adaptation. While a variety of meats can be used for this dish, it is traditionally made from beef or lamb with the lamb version being known as shepherd’s pie and the beef version known as cottage pie. Below is a recipe for shepherd’s pie. To make a cottage pie simply substitute the minced lamb with minced beef.
1 onion, diced
– 1 tablespoon olive oil
– 1 lb. (450-500g) lamb, minced
– 1 clove garlic, crushed
– 1 large carrot, diced
– 1 beef stock cube
– 1 lb. (450-500g) chopped tomatoes
– 1 tablespoon corn flour
– 3 tablespoons tomato puree
– pinch of salt and pepper
– 2 (900g) potatoes
– 1 stick butter
