If you are a backpacker, then you know anytime you do a 50+ hike, your lower back, and hips can really feel the trail. Whether your getting ready for a long distance hike like the Appalachian Trail, or it’s just a long weekend of some long miles, you need to make sure you use the proper stretching techniques and treat your back like as a priority. Remember, it’s your back that is carrying your shelter and food.

These are some stretching exercises which can assist in alleviating lower back pain by loosening muscles through the lower back and more importantly through the legs. A lot of lower back painic caused by tight hamstrings dragging on the lower back.

Do these BEFORE your long trek, and you just may not whince when you get back into your car.
