How is that the rules state:

All video’s must be no more than 6 minutes in length. A few seconds short or long will be ok. But anything longer than 6:15 won’t be judged.

Yet both winning video’s are 9:24 and 8:33 long.

If you going to set rules surely you should abide by them.

    Anyway congratulations to the winners

Both asked if it was ok before they entered. And we approved them.

Oh O.K. maybe it would of been better to dispense with the time limit on the films altogether.

Yea, I agree. This was our first contest, definitely will make some changes next time. Guess it came down to didn’t want to turn anyone down. We had over 40 video spams. The Youtube deal was hard to police.

I think that before you have another contest, you have to make a point to have it run by someone else other than yourselves. I trust that everything was on the up and up, but when I see that both winners are on your friends page, I could see how a lesser person could misconstrue this as a bias.

I also agree with Disappointed about the rules changing at the end of the contest. If I had created my film to meet your criteria, instead of for friends and family, I would be upset about the rule change, for two entries with authors from your friend list. This is not sour grapes – I never thought my film would even get this attention, but in the future other might question the fairness of your contests, and your site by association.

Congrats to the winners, and good luck with your contests in the future.

Let me make a few points. First everyone that becomes a Member on our Community Page ends up being on my friends list. That had nothing to do with it. If you want to become a Member, then you also would be on a Friend list. We had another person who is a Member who entered who didn’t win. Second, we had two categories. Best Backpacking Video, and best Trail Vlog. That’s exactly how they were judged. The rules didn’t change at the end of the contest, both had asked if it was ok to still enter. At that time we had only one entry. That is the point of our “networking page”. We had 6 entries. All of the people that submitted videos except for two have been visiting the site for a long time. You were invited to join the contest because I enjoyed your video. Many contest’s change or extend rules to bring more people into the contest. Hope this clears the air. Since we do this site for free, I always want to be flexible enough for others to enjoy everyone’s videos. There are enough videos lost on YouTube that nobody ever gets to see. Thanks for the comments, and I will make some changes for the next contest. Hope you enter at that time.

Have all the prizes been given out? I have not heard if I placed at all.

    Just curious.

As an “other,” I’m still waiting to be notified about the contest. There was a GPS and Hammock to be given out, along with other great prizes. Did someone win these? I figured since there were 6 entries and at least 4 prizes, I should have a pretty good shot at getting something.
