A Blind Hiker’s Appalachian Trail Journey

Mike Hanson is completely blind. In March he will begin an 8 month through-hike of the 2,187 mile Appalachian Trail using only a white cane and GPS technology to navigate his way.

Mike’s Hike, and the associated documentary, will make a dramatic statement about the independence of visually impaired individuals and how adaptive technology can greatly enhance that independence. This is a 5 minute informational and fundraising video. For more information or to make a donation please visit www.blindhiker.com.

I was born three months premature in 1965 and given pure oxygen. That destroyed the retinas of both my eyes, resulting in my being totally blind. I can tell if the sun is shining. Other than that, I have no sight.
